This blog post was originally written by Danielle back in spring 2016. This blog post is a reminder that you too can create wonderful change. Every single person out there who is doing something inspiring deals with many of the same perceived limitations that you may foresee… but don’t let those false limitations hold you back.
A little over one week ago, I found out I was nominated in the top 3 candidates for “Most Poised to Do Great Things” within the 2016 Local Love Truro awards. This nomination blew me away. I am so honored to have been considered for this award, and it only solidifies my path to me.
And from all this, there is one thing has been certain: Even when you don’t know where you’re going, even when you feel like people are doubting you, or even when things seem impossible, just close your eyes and jump in. Just start. Let go of everything you’ve been holding onto; everything that’s been holding you back, and take the dive. Here are some words that I heard recently that hit me hard, and I hope they give you the same impact (she refers to women only in this, however, you can replace the gender with whatever you’d prefer):“If the angels could have sat you down for a chat when you were on the way in to this life (among some other comments about love, fear, and your glory), they might have said this:
“Now, my dear, a little context: you are entering into a transitional time.
The past: A world led, designed and defined by men.
The future: A world led, designed and defined by women and men.
The present: The transition. Yes, we’ve put you on the transition team.
What’s so tricky to understand, dear one, is that as a woman of this transitional time, what is inside of you will be very different from what is outside of you. What you have to bring into the world will be very different from what you see before you as the status quo of the world. Yet what you have to bring forth is not crazy or wrong. In fact, it’s just what the world needs.
It’s as if the world is all purple and you — and your sisters — are going to bring in the yellow. Or as if it’s blue and you are going to bring in the red.
That means that whether you signed up for it or not, you will be a revolutionary. You will be a revolutionary whether you love that idea or whether you’d prefer to just do your thing quietly.
You will be a revolutionary because any woman who is being authentic in her work will bring forth ideas and ways of working that run counter to the status quo – a status quo defined by masculine values and masculine ways of working.
The angels might have added this: “So if you ever start to doubt or hold back or silence yourself because the questions you have, the ideas in your mind, or the way you work are so different from the status quo, remember that difference is exactly what is meant to be. You are here to bring forth a different way.”
– Tara Mohr, “Expect to be a Revolutionary” (To read the entire post – which I highly recommend – check it out here: http://www.taramohr.com/2013/05/expect-to-be-a-revolutionary/)So listen to that calling; listen to your gut. You know what you know… so don’t doubt it, listen to it.
As young children, we are often told in some part of our life, that “we’re too much,” and it’s thrown us out of our natural instincts; our listening to our guts. We don’t trust ourselves anymore, because in one way or another, we were told we were wrong. Rather than thinking it’s “cool” that we are who we are, we tone it down. But know this: there is no right or wrong, there is no one way to be beautiful, there’s nothing inherently better about one thing, or one way, versus another… what is “better” is being who you are. Let me repeat that: the best thing you can be is yourself.
The issue is, “just be yourself” is a whole lot easier said than done when we don’t know who “our self” is. We focus so much on “being ourselves” that it can be overwhelming, scary and confusing. We might start to feel like an impostor, and feel as though we’re not good enough to be doing what we’re doing or what we desire to be doing. But know this: you are enough already, exactly as you are.
Speak your truth. Live your mission. It is time for you to share your blessings, gifts, and visions in the world.
You will be a blessing in the world. Expect to be a Revolutionary… You are, and you will be. So hear me now, step into your space. The world is seeking you.
Thank you again for the nomination, words can’t express my gratitude enough, but please remember this: We are ALL poised to do great things.
