Last week I talked about the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast to start your day off and why it was so important. I hope you have been trying to implement a few of those tips! Now, I’m going further into detail about my morning ritual (well, I won’t share everything LOL!)
I have always eaten breakfast in the morning to start my day off, but before I have my breakfast there is another healthy habit that I have done for years and definitely notice the benefits. I drink a glass of warm water and lemon. I do this every morning as soon as I wake up and before I have my breakfast.
This is one of the simplest and most effective daily cleansing rituals you can do for your body.
Here are just a few benefits that drinking lemon water can do for your body:
1. Aids in Digestion and Detoxification
Lemon water cleanses and detoxifies the liver by increasing the liver’s detoxifying enzymes. Lemon water will help to produce bile, which along with fiber, helps to keep food moving through your body and gastrointestinal tract smoothly to eliminate toxins.
2. Decreases Constipation
Lemon water helps to keep you hydrated which helps promote regularity, making you feel less bloated, relieves constipation and allows your body to naturally detoxify. This simple habit “gets things going” in the gut!
3. Keeps Skin Glowing
After a few weeks of lemon and water, you may notice your skin is brighter, and if you suffer from skin blemishes or rashes, you may notice an improvement. The health of your digestive system and your liver is directly related to the health of your skin because, in order to heal your skin, you must start within!
4. Enhances Immunity
Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that plays a major role in many different aspects of health, but it’s especially important when it comes to immunity. Lemons are full of vitamin C, and adding lemon water to your daily routine is one of the best ways to take advantage of the many immune boosting benefits of lemon water. But don’t just drink it when you start coming down with a case of the sniffles; instead, add it to your daily diet when you’re feeling healthy to ward off infections before symptoms even start.
5. Increases Alkalinity
Your body’s pH level is vital to maintaining overall health. Unfortunately, the typical diet is filled with refined sugars, processed foods and chemical additives that can all contribute to an overproduction of acid in the blood, causing pH levels to lower, creating an environment where disease can thrive especially cancer cells. Lemon juice aids in making the body more alkaline, just like leafy green vegetables, which is the opposite of acidic. (Although lemon contains citric acid, it does not create acidity in the body.) Lemon enhances your digestive secretions so that acidic wastes are eliminated more effectively. Food is medicine, Yahhh!
Hot Lemon Water
Every morning when you wake up, and before you eat your breakfast, have your lemon water, you want the water to be cloudy.
Sip each morning to enjoy the health benefits listed above.
- 2 cups warm water (not boiling)
- 1/4 to 1/2 lemon
Cut the lemon in half or quarters, and squeeze the juice into the water.
After drinking, swish with some plain filtered water for 30 seconds, or drink through a straw if you are concerned about your tooth enamel.
Another option is you can substitute the lemon juice for a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar as it has the same great qualities.
Bonus: add a dash of organic cayenne pepper to your lemon water to boost
your metabolism and further increase your digestive enzyme production.
Cheers, with a big mug of lemon water!
